Activities

Crops Judging

Members of the Agronomy Club have the opportunity to compete in many different contests including crops judging. Teams from universities across the country compete at the Kansas City American Royal Collegiate Crops Contest and the Chicago Collegiate Crops Contest. These competitions showcase the students’ knowledge of plant and seed identification, commercial grain grading, and seed analysis. Awards, scholarships, and national recognition are presented to best overall teams and individuals.

For more information, dates and contest rules, visit the American Society of Agronomy contest page.

Outreach

As a club, we try to give back to the community in ways that are meaningful and educational. Each year, the MU Agronomy Club has a booth at Mizzou’s Southfarm Showcase. This event is open to the public and features a wide array of activities and information centers for individuals to learn about agriculture, the environment, and university research. The Agronomy Club booth focuses on Missouri crop production and the presence of those crops in common household products. We have activities for both children and adults and hope to raise the agricultural awareness of everyone who visits us.

Fundraising

Travel and registration for our numerous events can become expensive. To support our organization, we apply for grants and have different fundraising activities. We sell MU Agronomy Club t-shirts, hats and polos throughout the year. We also have seasonal fundraisers such as popcorn and sunflower sales. Our students are involved with every step of the process, from planting to selling.

If you cannot attend one of our meetings but would like to support our organization, please contact us with your information, and we will strive to meet your needs.
